In the Advanced Editor, you may have noticed a field called "Index Name". This field allows you to change the "name" of the flashcard that is visible in the card-sorter panel on the left side of the screen. (The name of the flashcard is otherwise just the first several characters of the Question text, by default.)
The Card Index Name is not visible on the screen while a user is studying. It is only used for editors, and for the Card List or Card Search functions in the mobile app. It makes it easier to identify flashcards that wouldn't have been as easily identifiable by the Question text alone.
Some reasons you might want to use the Card Index Name:
- There is only an image file on the front of the flashcard, but no Question text
- The text is identical on every Question (e.g. "Identify this bone:")
- The Question text is very long, and you just want a nice crisp learning objective
If you have editing privileges for a particular class, you can easily change the Card Index Name for any flashcard at any time.
