Accessing AI features & functionality on mobile

OVERVIEW

Brainscape is excited to have a suite of AI powered features on our mobile app.  You are able to import and upload files, images, coursework, class notes and have AI tools improve and optimize the content to create flashcards for you in seconds.  Also, we have a way to let you tell AI exactly what you want and you can let the tool generate the flashcards for you.

The below text will detail out how to access each option within the mobile app.  If you want more information about how to import different files and how the Import and Paste Flashcards feature works in detail, you can read more about that here.

FINDING AI FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITY

You can access these features from the class dashboard or in the editor in the following ways:

Creating a new deck / add cards to a new deck

Step 1: Click the + to create a new deck and name it.

Step 2: Click the 'Add Cards' button next to the deck and select which action you'd like to take:

• Manual: Type Flashcards -> this option will take you straight to the editor and you can create flashcards one-by-one
• AI Powered: Import/Paste Flashcards--> this option allows you to upload a file, image or take a picture, or copy and paste a list of questions & answers or vocab words & definitions.  You may upload 500 rows at a time.  AI is only invoked in this action if you decide to 'Fix with AI' once you've imported/pasted the content.  
• AI Powered: Summarize from Content -> you may upload a file, and image or take a picture of your content and AI will generate content from your material.
• AI Powered: Just Tell AI What I Want-->generate flashcards for any topic from scratch.  You may add a clear prompt, select approximately how many flashcards you'd like, and even pick which language you'd like the Questions and Answers to be generated in. (Note: ChatGPT provides a pre-loaded set of languages at this time.)

Step 3: After selecting the Manual option or one of the AI-Powered options, you will be taken through a series of modals to import, upload and create your flashcards.  For additional details about how to create flashcards through these various options, read more here.

Add cards to an existing deck 

Step 1: Click the deck you'd like to edit.

Step 2: Select 'Add Cards' from the slider

Step 3: Choose what Manual or AI-Powered action you'd like to take (see above list under Step 2)

Step 4: Choose what Manual or AI-Powered action you'd like to take (see above list under Step 2).  You can then follow the modals which include instructions and tool tips to create your flashcards.  There is messaging built in to signal if your file is incorrect or too large for the operation.  Again, read here for a detailed, screen-by-screen set of instrutions.

Edit existing cards  / add more from the Editor

Step 1: Click on the deck you'd like to edit; select 'View Deck' from the slider.

Step 2: From the card list, find the card you'd like to edit and click on that card.  A slider will appear and you have several options, click on the 'Edit Card' option to access the editor.  Alternatively, from the card list, you could always click on the orange + to access the Editor. (Both shown below.)

Step 3: You will now be in the Editor and able to edit cards, or insert more cards manually or with AI.  If you want to add more cards using AI, click the 'magic wand' icon on the top right of the list.  [This functionality is currently in beta and will soon be released to all users.]
