Accessing AI features & functionality on the Web (desktop)

OVERVIEW

Brainscape is excited to have a suite of AI powered features on our mobile app.  You are able to import and upload files, images, coursework, class notes and have AI tools improve and optimize the content to create flashcards for you in seconds.  Also, we have a way to let you tell AI exactly what you want and you can let the tool generate the flashcards for you.

The below text will detail out how to access each option within the mobile app.  If you want more information about how to import different files and how the Import and Paste Flashcards feature works in detail, you can read more about that here.

FINDING AI FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITY

You can access these features from the class dashboard or in the editor in the following ways:

Creating a new deck / add cards to a new deck

Step 1: From your class dashboard, click the 'Create New Deck' button found on the top right of your deck list, or you can select the '+ Create New Deck ' button at the bottom of your deck list, both of which will allow you to name and create a new deck.  

Step 2: Click the 'Add Cards' button next to the deck and select which action you'd like to take, or select the 'Import/Make Flashcard 'link from the top of the dashboard.  You will see the below modal with the following options:

• Manual: Type Flashcards -> this option will take you straight to the editor and you can create flashcards one-by-one
• AI Powered: Import/Paste Flashcards--> this option allows you to upload a file, image or take a picture, or copy and paste a list of questions & answers or vocab words & definitions.  You may upload 500 rows at a time.  AI is only invoked in this action if you decide to 'Fix with AI' once you've imported/pasted the content.  
• AI Powered: Summarize from Content -> you may upload a file, and image or take a picture of your content and AI will generate content from your material.
• AI Powered: Just Tell AI What I Want-->generate flashcards for any topic from scratch.  You may add a clear prompt, select approximately how many flashcards you'd like, and even pick which language you'd like the Questions and Answers to be generated in. (Note: ChatGPT provides a pre-loaded set of languages at this time.)

Step 3:  Depending on which of these options you choose in the above modal, you will be able to follow the set of instructions and prompts to create your flashcards.  Once the operation is complete, you will be taken to the Editor where you can further edit or add additional cards.

Create a new deck from the dashboard by IMPORT/MAKE FLASHCARDS

Step 1: Once you click on 'Import/Make Flashcards' from the link on the dashboard, or after clicking the 'Add Cards' button next to your new deck, you will see the Add Flashcards modal (above image).  You can then select the 'Import/Paste Flashcards' button from that modal, you will have two options: Paste List or Upload a File.

Step 2: You may follow the steps on these modals and once the operation has completed and you have accepted the new flashcards, they will be added to your class and you will be taken to the Editor to perform further steps.  (You can edit, add more more cards, etc. from the Editor.)

Add cards to an existing deck or edit your cards using AI

Step 1: Select the deck that you'd like to edit and then click on the pencil icon.  You will be taken to the editor.

Step 2: Once in the editor, you can click on the AI icons on either the top right or bottom left of the card list.  From there, you will be taken through the modal with tips, prompts, and instructions for carrying out the desired operations.

Step 3:  Your new cards will be added to the end of the deck, but you can carry out the normal editor operations by, adding more cards, performing bulk operations, copying, moving, etc. within the Editor.

Note: If you click the Manual / Type Flashcards option from the modal, you will be taken to the Editor and from there you can decide if you do want to manually create flashcards or employ one of the AI or other shortcut tools.
