In the newest release of our Editor, we make it easy for you to decide if you want to use our streamlined editor or our more advanced editor to create your decks. You may toggle between these two editors, however all cards in the deck need to use the same editor. We are happy to offer you this awesome editing power for free!
Whether you choose the simple or advanced option all depends on the amount of information and the type of information you plan on adding for each type of deck. Experiment and see what works best for your study material.
Here are some easy steps to get started:
- After creating your class, and deck, click on the pencil next to the deck name to get to the deck editor (you can also click on the pencil while in study mode for any classes where you are the owner)
- Once you are in the editor tab, you can toggle between the editors by clicking "simple" or "advance" to pick the editor you’d like to create your cards. Simple allows you to quickly create Question & Answer flashcards, while Advanced allows you to use all the fields on our flashcards template.

I want to revert to custom editor but my screen does not look like the image here - there is no organize button. Please help!
This example does not reflect the website. It looks like this functionality was removed.
My current workaround is to export the deck as a CSV file, edit it with excel to replace/remove all the HTML tags (not required but it can be easier), then save it back to CSV, and finally reimport it as a new deck.
Same thing here, I see they are not responding to any support requests, or?
I'm having the same issue.
After I posted my comment earlier about the example not reflecting the website, they contacted me directly to help. I sent them a screenshot and noted that the button was missing, and how I couldn't find the "Organize" dropdown and the "Restore Auto Formatting" feature. They gave me access to a "new editor" and that fixed my issue.
Unfortunately I didn't get any information on how to fix this for others. It's evident that they monitor comments and will reach out to you if you have issues. So I'd say either leave a comment here or directly contact their support desk.
Is there a way for my account to get the new editor?
Heyyo ! I had the same issue here. Looking at the url I figured out how to revert back to the simple-editing from the pro-editing without having the button "option".
If you're stuck in pro editing your url (the search bar at the top of you browser) is going to look a bit like this :
https://www.brainscape.com/decks/########/cards/-1/edit?pack_id=########
To go back to Simple editing: Replace the "-1/edit?" by the following "quick?".
Your url should now look a little like this:
https://www.brainscape.com/decks/########/cards/quick?pack_id=########
All you have to do now is press "Enter" (or "return" for macs) on your keybord and you should be set :)
Ps: you may see stuff like <p> <br> </p>. this is totally normal and you shouldn't worry about it! your cards will not show them, they are simple commands for the computer. Just keep making your new cards and ignore them!
