How do I copy another user's flashcards to edit on my own? (e.g. Copy the Class)

OVERVIEW

Brainscape makes it easy for flashcard creators to invite collaborators to their Class and edit the flashcards together. However, sometimes you might just want to create a duplicate version of another user's flashcards so you can edit your own version.

When you make a duplicate of a flashcard class, ALL of the decks are duplicated as well.  For information about just copying and pasting one deck at a time, check this out.

Note: If you make a change in the copied class, the changes will not reflect in the master / original copy.

In terms of who can perform these actions:

• If the class is not a private user generated class (class made by someone else in our public market), you can copy it if you are Pro. 
• If the user generated class is private, only the Admin of that class can make a copy. 
• If it is a BCC (Brainscape Certified Class), no one can copy due to copyright issues with the course creators.

HOW IT WORKS: ON THE WEB

To do this, simply navigate to the selected Class on your My Classes screen, and click or tap the menu button near the Class title. In the drop-down menu, you should see an option that says "Duplicate Class".   You need to do this step before you can copy flashcards to your own class.  For more details about how to do this, you can read this article.  Please note, that in order to take advantage of this feature, you will need to be a Pro user.  

Choosing this option will kick off the copying process on our database, in the background. This could take seconds, or several minutes, depending on the size of the Class (especially if there are lots of images and sounds). When this is done, you should receive an email to the address associated with your Brainscape account, and you can refresh the screen to see your own version of the Class, with the word "COPY" next to its title.

This new version will be fully editable, and you will be named as its creator. You will now have the ability to invite your own collaborators and adjust their editing permissions.

HOW IT WORKS: ON THE MOBILE APP

We are excited to expand our editing options on Mobile.  When you perform this action, the copy will also be extended to all of the decks in the class.

FEATURE BASICS: PERMISSIONS FOR THIS FEATURE

• If the class is non-private user generated class (created by another and in our public market), anyone can copy if they are Pro

• If the class is a private user generated class, only the class Admin can copy (as long as Pro)

• If the class is a Brainscape Certified Class, then no one can copy in an effort to respect copyright of the author/course.

HOW TO COPY A CLASS (and DECKS)

1. Find the class you want to copy on your Dashboard (see permissions above to see which of your classes will qualify)
2. From the Options Menu (Ellipses), select Duplicate Class
3. You will see a status showing that this action is happening - you may need to be patient, especially if this is a large class or if there are a lot of images or audio files.  
4. If you don't see it right away, just sync your class.  (Pull down with your finger on the Dashboard)
5. The 'copy' of your class will show up in your dashboard
